Ford Mustang Mach-E 2026: A California Special Edition

Maybe it’s because this package is truly one of a kind or simply because I once owned a Mustang California Special myself but this name holds a special place in my heart. Either way, I couldn’t help but get excited when I learned that Ford planned to bring back the California Special designation. This time, however, it’s the fully electric Mustang Mach-E SUV that will carry the torch.

After introducing the GT and Rally versions, Ford is adding another legendary nameplate to the Mustang Mach-E lineup with a California Special edition for 2026.

A Legacy That Endures

The Mustang name has resonated since 1964, and the California Special moniker is almost as old. In fact, Ford first introduced the package in 1968. While it wasn’t officially classified as a special edition, only about 4,000 units were built a small number considering the Mustang’s overall production already exceeded a million vehicles at the time.

The California Special package pays tribute to the American West Coast with refined styling and distinctive graphics. That’s why Ford decided to add blue accent stripes, a nod to the color of the digital display inside.

The 2026 Mustang Mach-E California Special also comes equipped with 20-inch carbonized gray wheels and the GT/CS badging, as the California Special is available exclusively with the GT trim just like on the regular Mustang. That’s great news, since it means buyers of this edition will enjoy a total output of 480 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque.

This new version also includes a few exclusive touches, such as an illuminated blue pony badge on the grille and blue interior accents throughout the cabin.
