Ford GT: One Final Sprint Before Production Ends

Ford GT: One Final Sprint Before Production Ends

When it returned to the market nearly ten years ago, it made headlines everywhere. Yet today, we hardly hear about this automotive legend anymore. In case you didn’t know, the Ford GT is still in production.

Unfortunately, it’s already far too late to secure an allocation for a street-legal version. However, the American automaker isn’t done exploiting the phenomenal capabilities of this chassis. The Ford GT will therefore get one final production run in the form of a race car.

GT MK IV

While the road-going Ford GT has been unavailable for quite some time now, the GT MK IV is still listed in Ford’s catalog. However, it’s not a model you can order directly from the manufacturer’s website. Like its street version, it’s an extremely limited-production vehicle. Ford has announced that the final production batch will launch in the coming weeks, with only 67 allocations to be granted.

Just like the road version, the Ford GT MK IV is powered by a twin-turbo V6. However, displacement has been increased to 3.8 liters, along with several other upgrades that allow Ford’s engineers to extract 820 horsepower from the engine. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. For reference, the road version produced 660 horsepower, which is still impressive in its own right.

The Ford GT MK IV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds. Yet that’s not even its most impressive feat. The American automaker’s track machine generates 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. As if that weren’t enough, the 67 lucky owners who secure an allocation will also receive a private driving session with racing driver Scott Maxwell to help them unlock their car’s full potential on the track.
