Ford recently issued a press release stating that two SUVs will end production by the end of the year to make room in the lineup for a new mid-size electric pickup truck. The American automaker then officially confirmed that the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair are the two models in question.
The Ford Escape has been one of the most popular vehicles in Ford's lineup for many years, which makes the decision to pull it from the market far from easy. Fortunately, the American brand's SUV will continue to be offered as a 2026 model, remaining on sale until inventory runs out.
As for the Lincoln Corsair, it has also sold quite well in its segment, but it shares the same platform as the Escape. It therefore makes sense that this more upscale twin would face essentially the same fate as its mainstream counterpart.
Ford Model T
Rest assured, Ford has not decided to resume production of the Model T where it left off nearly 100 years ago. Rather, "Model T" is the codename for the upcoming 100% electric mid-size pickup truck the company will soon bring to market. It is expected to be assembled at Ford's Louisville plant, where the Escape and Corsair were built.
A Look Back
While the Corsair name is relatively young in Ford's history, the Escape has a much longer legacy. In fact, the model's first generation debuted 25 years ago in the year 2000 as a 2001 model. The Ford Escape has been a key vehicle for the brand, holding the title of the most popular model in its category for several years. Not to mention its plug-in hybrid version, which offered a driving range far superior to its rivals when it launched.
At Ford, much of the focus is now on the Bronco Sport, even though the Escape has been more popular. We can expect the Bronco Sport lineup to be significantly expanded in the coming years. Who knows maybe a hybrid, or even a plug-in hybrid version, could join the range.
If you're thinking of purchasing a Ford Escape or Lincoln Corsair, I suggest not waiting too long given the popularity of both models.
