2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E: The Electric Pony

2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E: The Electric Pony

If you had told me at the start of my automotive journalism career that the best-selling Mustang would one day be an electric SUV, I would've said that was impossible. And yet, here we are a reality that proves success can come with the right balance of modernity and tradition. The Ford Mustang Mach-E has managed to carve out its place despite heavy criticism from Mustang purists after its official reveal. In fact, the formula worked so well that other brands are now considering a similar approach by expanding their lineups from iconic sports models.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E continues to evolve for 2025 with a handful of subtle updates. Ford has added a new heat pump, which improves winter heating efficiency while reducing energy consumption. The BlueCruise hands-free driving system has also received a significant update. The biggest news for this year is the arrival of the GT Performance version, which delivers an astonishing 480 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque.

Lineup and Pricing

For 2025, the Mustang Mach-E lineup includes four versions, starting with the Select model, priced from $53,690. This base version comes well equipped with a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and a large 15.5-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Next is the Premium trim at $57,690, which adds a better sound system, a panoramic glass roof, and a host of premium features that more than justify the $4,000 price increase over the Select. The GT version starts at $70,690, while the new Rally trim tops the range at $74,690.

Category and Competition

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is classified as an electric SUV, a fast-growing segment full of bold and creative models. I think Ford made a smart decision by infusing nostalgia through the Mustang concept rather than launching a completely new nameplate.

Rivals: Chevrolet Blazer EV, Honda Prologue, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Kona EV, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya, Subaru Solterra, Tesla Model Y, Toyota bZ4X, Volkswagen ID.4, Volvo EX30

Design and Technology

I know it still shocks some people that Ford dared to use the Mustang name and styling cues for an electric SUV. But the truth is, it works. The Mustang Mach-E is a real head-turner, and in my opinion, it offers one of the most attractive color palettes in its segment for 2025.

The interior may be a bit too understated for my taste, but it's still undeniably elegant. Both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen are sharp and easy to navigate. The Mach-E is fairly spacious for its size, and its comfort level is impressive overall.

Performance

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E offers four different mechanical configurations, starting with the Standard Range battery setup. This includes a 72 kWh battery that delivers approximately 402 km of range in RWD form and around 370 km with AWD. Power output ranges between 264 and 325 hp, with torque figures between 387 and 500 lb-ft, depending on the version.

Next up is the Extended Range battery, which uses a larger 91 kWh pack to offer up to 515 km of range. Power output ranges from 290 to 365 hp, depending on drivetrain layout.

Finally, the GT and Rally models feature a 480-hp setup, with torque figures ranging between 600 and 700 lb-ft. Range for these versions falls between 426 and 451 km.
